At OCTOPUS EDUCATION, we believe every child deserves the chance to feel confident, capable, and in control of their learning.

Our small group Science GCSE tutoring sessions create the perfect environment for students to thrive — offering focused attention, expert teaching, and the benefits of peer interaction.

We are two fully qualified and experienced science teachers who met in 2022 while teaching side by side in London. United by a passion for science education and a belief that learning should be enjoyable, we founded Octopus Education to take the very best parts of school, fill the gaps, and create something special — a custom learning centre right in the heart of Cobham High Street.

With young children of our own, we know how challenging it can be to balance education, work, and family life. Building Octopus Education allows us to continue teaching to the highest standard while maintaining that balance — and we want to help you find the right balance for your family, too.

Our goal is simple: to be the trusted, go-to solution for families who want to see real progress. We want our science classes to be something students ask to attend — because they feel supported, challenged, and motivated to succeed.

OUR VALUES GUIDE EVERYTHING WE DO

CLARITY – Clear explanations, thoughtfully designed science resources, and open communication so students always know where they stand and how to move forward.

CONFIDENCE – A safe, small-group tutoring environment where students can ask questions, discuss tricky topics, and practise until they feel secure.

EXCELLENCE – High-quality teaching materials, engaging lessons, and expert guidance rooted in research and reflective practice.

WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT?

We offer the best of both worlds: the focus and personalisation of one-to-one tutoring combined with the energy and collaboration of a group setting. Our distraction-free, device-free space encourages meaningful interaction and reduces screen time, giving students a chance to connect with both tutors and peers.

Think of it as a learning centre— a place beyond school and home where students can grow, connect, and excel.

Fully Qualified, Experienced Teachers

Chemistry teacher with dark hair in Cobham

Amiera holds a First-Class master’s degree in chemistry from the University of Glasgow, where she was awarded the Bader Bursary, Carnegie Bursary, and Masters Presentation Prize. She later earned a Bachelor of Arts in Acting from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland before moving from Glasgow to London in 2012.

With over ten years’ experience tutoring science at GCSE and A-level, and as a Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) Scholar, Amiera completed her PGCE in Chemistry at King’s College London in 2021. She was subsequently awarded the prestigious Wipro Scholarship and, in 2024, completed a Master’s in STEM Education (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths), also at King’s.

Amiera’s path into teaching began during her acting career, when she tutored science alongside performing. Over time, she realised she was gaining more fulfilment from teaching than acting. Her work with a charity supporting refugee children proved to be a turning point, inspiring her to make the permanent move into education. Today, she finds the greatest reward in discovering each child’s unique journey through learning and helping them build the confidence to succeed.

Amiera has been a fully qualified teacher since 2021, beginning her career at Ashcroft Technology Academy in London before moving to Cranmore School in Surrey, where she was Head of Chemistry from 2023 to 2025. Following the birth of her son, she now teaches part-time at Cranmore, combining her love of teaching with raising her young family.

Known for her clear communication, innovative thinking, and passion for research, Amiera also serves on the editorial board for Education in Chemistry, the Royal Society of Chemistry’s flagship magazine.

When she’s not teaching, you’ll likely find her at a music workshop with her son — or out enjoying a bike ride!

Biology teacher with blonde hair in Cobham

Maddy has been teaching science since 2018, working with students from Year 7 through to 6th form across London. She studied Toxicology with Human Biology at the University of East London before later completing her Science PGCE at the Institute of Education, UCL.

Her interest in education began while travelling in Southeast Asia, where she taught English to young children. Later, while working in social care, she saw how education could transform the outlook and opportunities of young people, which confirmed her decision to pursue teaching as a career.

In school Maddy has taken on roles such as Lead Practitioner of Science, Lead Practitioner of Achievement, and Head of Key Stage 3. She especially valued the chance to lead science enrichment projects and launch extracurricular opportunities, from STEM clubs to debating, which allowed students to explore learning in new and exciting ways. Her commitment to connecting science with the real world also stems from her concern for environmental issues.

In 2017, she worked on a conservation project protecting loggerhead turtles and their ecosystem, an experience that deepened her belief in the importance of teaching young people how science can help safeguard the planet and its biodiversity.

In the classroom, Maddy encourages students to think critically about the world around them and to link scientific ideas with the challenges faced by society and the environment.

She now teaches part-time at an outstanding school in Wandsworth. Away from work, she enjoys reading and sewing when she isn't chasing after her son.
